Rosie

My name is Rosie. You want to travel beautiful routes? Through the snow of the Alps. The wild, untouched Scotland. Or maybe you prefer the capitals of Europe. Then you’ve come to the right place: I’m the expert on the most beautiful routes.

1. Scotland and the Highlands

Take the night train from London to Fort William and the Isle of Skye. Then you travel all the way north to Thurso and back via Inverness and Edinburgh.

This is a journey with lots of nature and empty trains, away from the crowds.

Reservation costs: none

Duration: a relaxing 5 days

2. On the Glacier Express Route through the Swiss Alps

You travel on the route of the Glacier and Bernina Express through the Swiss Alps. However, free of charge with Interrail, without reservation costs. The best route is from Andermatt via Chur, passing St. Moritz to Ospizio Bernina with destination in Tirano.

Fascinating nature awaits you. You travel on regional trains and can get off every now and then, linger a while and continue on the next train.

Reservation costs: none

Duration: relaxed 1 to 2 days

3. With Inlandsbanan into the wild nature of Sweden

Inlandsbanan takes you through the wild nature of Sweden. You travel beyond the Arctic Circle, off the beaten track. Relax in the multiple unit coach. With many experiences on the 745-kilometre route, for which the train takes just under 14 hours.

Moose, freedom and relaxation. Watch out for the timetables of Inlandsbanan, which usually only runs from June to August.

Reservation fee: 1.50 EUR

Travel time: relaxed 1 to 2 days

4. From Helsinki to Northern Lapland by night train

Father Christmas lives in the far north, right on the Arctic Circle. And this is exactly where the night train from Helsinki takes you. A fascinating journey – especially in winter.

Inexpensive night train to Lapland to Santa’s Village. Ideal for the onward journey to Sweden

Reservation costs: from 5 EUR in the seating car / from 29 EUR in the couchette car

Travel time: relaxed 1 day

5. On the night train from Stockholm to Northern Norway

It takes 18 hours to travel from Stockholm directly to Narvik in northern Norway. Fascinating nature awaits you. From central Sweden to the barren north with its mountains and lakes.

A comfortable night train with the option to travel on to the Lofoten Islands or the North Cape. However, by bus then from Narvik.

Reservation costs: from 5 EUR in the seating car / from 26 EUR in the couchette car

Travel time: relaxed 1 day

What is the Interrail Ticket ?

Interrail is a rail pass that allows you to travel in 33 European countries. One ticket for all countries. Simple and flexible.

Interrail is available in different versions: for a short trip through the capitals of Europe. Or for a month-long trip from north to south and east to west. You can find all ticket variants on this overview page.

Please note:

  • Some trains require an extra seat reservation. These are usually high-speed trains. However, this can often be avoided. Fred will explain how this works.
  • On a night train, you have to reserve your sleeping place or seat, but in return you save the night in a hostel or hotel.
  • Interrail is not valid in your country of residence. However, you have one free exit (outbound) and one free entry (inbound). For transit, you can use the savings fares of the railway companies, for example.
