Launch 1 November 2026The successor to rail.cc, for many years an established independent source for international rail travel. rail.world is a complete rebuild on a new timetable data foundation — far broader in scope and substantially extended in function: worldwide train routing, with long journeys worked out end to end across borders, gauges and operators rather than city pair by city pair.

Behind the platforms is a data infrastructure of our own: a worldwide station register, timetable data from open sources and our own research, and our own routing — built up over many years and maintained continuously.

One model, many sources
Timetables from national data portals, transport associations and operators, plus our own research where no open data exists. Millions of records in one common model, with validity for each timetable period.
Built to be maintained
Every import runs as a dry run first and is checked before it is applied. No import overwrites information maintained by hand. Operated on our own infrastructure in the EU, with PostgreSQL, TypeScript and Python.
Stations in the traveller’s language
rail.world will be available in 27 languages. Station and place names exist in around 35 languages, in original script and transliteration — Greek, Cyrillic or Japanese alike. Partly researched ourselves, partly matched against Wikidata.
Explaining first
The aim is to make rail travel understandable — for instance, how to travel by train in Germany for someone from Japan — and to win people over to rail. Sources are credited, licences respected, data never resold. Railworld AB sees itself as a partner of the railways, not as an intermediary.

An independent company based in Sweden. The work began in 1996 — first in Germany, later in Cyprus, today as Railworld AB in Sweden. The subject has not changed since: content, structured travel information and digital tools around a single idea — that the world is reachable by train.
